Do I have to do an introduction course before commencing the full Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice?
Your first firm step in your new career path is to enrol in one of our Introduction to Massage intensive courses. This is the first subject in your Certificate course, but also a very worthwhile stand-alone course.
You can enrol in the introduction classes as a short course without registering for the full Certificate course. This structure gives you two major advantages.
Firstly, it allows you to test the water before you make a full commitment to the Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice. The Introduction to Massage is deliberately structured so it is the foundation for the full Certificate course and is also a self-contained elementary course that will provide you with enough skills to give people the benefit of massage around the home or at the work place.
If you have any doubts about your choice of a career in Massage, then the introductory course is a must so you can test your aptitude for massage at low cost before you commit to the full Certificate course.
The second advantage is this - taking this first Massage subject gives you a flying start on your Certificate course and a new direction in life.
We ask students consider the” Introduction to Massage” course. The reason for this is that the “Introduction to Massage” course gives you the chance to experience the quality of our teaching and most of all the thrill of healing with your hands. You can determine your new career direction and take the first step at the same time.
The “Introduction to Massage” also course gives you the benefit of learning massage without committing to the Certificate course.
Further, if you complete the Introduction to Massage course and continue into the full Certificate course – we’ll REFUND THE COST of the Introduction course
Can I study the modules as single subjects?
Yes - you can study single subjects. A single subject fee applies to each module. You can study one or several modules and know that as you complete each module it counts toward your qualification. There may be pre requisites for some units.
I want to become a Remedial Massage Therapist or Myotherapist – what do I have to do?
Our Diploma is underpinned by the Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice; therefore you would complete the Certificate subjects then move into the Diploma subjects. The Certificate allows you to join massage associations and obtain professional insurance. You can work from home, clinics, mobile or even in the booming corporate massage sector. You can continue studying and complete your Diploma of Remedial Massage.
The pre requisite for the Advanced Diploma of Remedial Massage (Myotherapy) is the Diploma of Remedial Massage.
Is study available full time and part time?
Yes - We have two intakes a year – March and August. Contact our office and we can forward a timetable for whichever course you are interested in.
In the Certificate of Massage Therapy, you can elect Sports or Relaxation. How do I know which is right for me?
You cannot make a wrong decision!! Our trainers are the best in the business so it really depends on where you see yourself once you have completed the course. If you see yourself working with athletes, at sports medicine centres, gyms and football clubs then obviously Sports is the way to go. If you see yourself working with people who want to unwind from the ravages of stress then Relaxation may be what you are after. In any case our staff will always have time to discuss your concerns and point you in the right direction.
What is the workload like outside of the contact hours?
As part of the Health Sciences component of the course there are workbooks to complete. The workbooks generally require approximately 2 hours extra per week outside of the Institute. Also there is 50 hours of massage that needs to be completed. This can be done with family, friends, sporting clubs and charity organizations. The Institute can also help you with contacting various organizations.
Are there any extra fees for books etc?
No - Our fees are fully inclusive and include your manuals, workbooks, Anatomy textbook and Level Two First Aid Certificate.
Can I get Austudy/Abstudy/ Youth allowance? What about the Job Employment and Training Scheme – will that pay for courses?
Yes - Our courses are registered with Centrelink and you may be able to receive these government benefits. You will need to consult with Centrelink to ensure that you are eligible for these payments.
Does the Diploma follow on from the Certificate?
Yes – our courses are created in a stepping stone fashion. First you would complete the Certificate then move on to the Diploma. After completing the Diploma you can continue your study in to the Advanced Diploma of Remedial Massage (Myotherapy).
I have qualifications from another organization/school/university. Can these count toward my massage course?
Yes - we have an active Recognition of Prior Learning policy. Generally, training at another organization can count toward your Certificate or Diploma. We will need to see all your qualifications, statement of attainment, workbooks and learning outcomes of the course that you studied to make a valued assessment.
Do the fees have to be paid “up front”?
No - we understand that people enjoy the convenience of making payments over time. Accordingly we have a three and four payment plan. Nevertheless paying an upfront fee does give a financial saving over the long term.
No - fortunately, our fees are fully inclusive, including your Anatomy textbook. You can, of course, purchase additional books from our bookshop that has a comprehensive range of anatomical and massage texts.
Is MIMT a registered Training Authority?
Yes – we are registered with the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority and the Australian National Training Authority as a Registered Training Organisation.
What experience do your teachers have?
All our teaching staff are the best qualified in the Industry. Trainers all have a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and are accredited adult educators. Our “hands on” trainers are the most highly recognised in the Industry, all with their own practices. Our Sports Massage trainers have worked internationally and nationally at the Olympics, Australian Tennis Open, World University games and other elite events.
Are lab visits included in the course?
Our course includes visits to the labs at RMIT, Bundoora.
Can I join Massage Associations with my qualification?
Various professional associations recognize our courses. The Certificate course qualifies you for membership at Massage Therapy level and the Diploma qualifies you for membership as a Remedial Massage Therapist. Completion of the Advanced Diploma qualifies you as a Myotherapist.
