We do ask that students intending to study the Certificate course complete an Introduction course. The reason for this is that the "Introduction to Massage" course gives you the chance to experience the quality of our teaching and most of all the thrill of healing with your hands. You can determine your new career direction and take the first step at the same time. The "Introduction to Massage" also course gives you the benefit of learning massage without committing to the Certificate course. top Can I study the modules of the Certificate IV of Massage Therapy as single subjects? Yes - you can study the Certificate IV of Massage Therapy modules as single subjects. A single subject fee applies to each module. You can study one or several modules and know that as you complete each module it counts toward your qualification. top Is study available full time and part time for the Certificate IV of Massage Therapy? Yes - We have two intakes a year - March and August. In our full time course you would need to be in attendance on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9.30 until 4.30pm for a period of just over 4 months. top In our part time course you would be here on a Monday and Wednesday evening (for our March intake) and Tuesday and Thursday (for our August intake) from 6.30 - 9.30pm. You can do the Certificate IV of Massage Therapy specialist techniques in Sports or Relaxation. How do I know which is right for me? You cannot make a wrong decision!! Our trainers are the best in the business so it really depends on where you see yourself once you have completed the course. If you see yourself working with athletes, at sports medicine centres, gyms and football clubs then obviously Sports is the way to go. If you see yourself working with people who want to unwind from the ravages of stress then Relaxation may be what you are after. In any case our staff will always have time to discuss your concerns and point you in the right direction. top What is the workload like outside of the contact hours? As part of the Health Sciences component of the course there are workbooks to complete. The workbooks generally require approximately 2 hours extra per week outside of the Institute. Also there is 50 hours of massage that needs to be completed. This can be done with family, friends, sporting clubs and charity organizations. The Institute can also help you with contacting various organizations.  top Are there any extra fees for books etc? No - Our fees are fully inclusive and include your manuals, workbooks, Anatomy textbook and Level Two First Aid Certificate. top Can I get Austudy/Abstudy/ Youth allowance? What about the Job Employment and Training Scheme - will that pay for courses? Yes - Our courses are registered with Centrelink and you may be able to receive these government benefits. You will need to consult with Centrelink to ensure that you are eligible for these payments. top Can I work professionally with a Certificate IV of Massage Therapy? The Certificate allows you to join massage associations and obtain professional insurance. You can work from home, clinics, mobile or even in the booming corporate massage sector. top Does the Diploma follow on from the Certificate? Yes - the modules of the Certificate course form part of the Diploma of Remedial Massage course, so you can continue straight on to the Diploma from the Certificate. top What is Remedial Massage? Remedial massage describes various techniques for the assessment and treatment of soft tissue pathologies. In order to become a Remedial Therapist you need to complete the Diploma of Remedial Massage. top I have qualifications from another organization/school/university. Can these count toward my massage course? Yes - we have an active Recognition of Prior Learning policy. Generally, training at another organization can count toward your Certificate or Diploma. We will need to see all your qualifications, statement of attainment, workbooks and learning outcomes of the course that you studied to make a valued assessment.  top Do the fees have to be paid "up front"? No - we understand that people enjoy the convenience of making payments over time. Accordingly we have a three and four payment plan. Nevertheless paying an upfront fee does give a financial saving over the long term. top Do I have to buy textbooks? No - fortunately, our fees are fully inclusive, including your Anatomy textbook. You can, of course, purchase additional books from our bookshop that has a comprehensive range of anatomical and massage texts. top Is MIMT State Victorian Qualifications Authority approved? Yes - the Melbourne Institute of Massage Therapy is registered with the VQA and the Australian National Training Authority as a Registered Training Organisation. top What experience do your teachers have? All our teaching staff are the best qualified in the Industry. Trainers all have a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and are accredited adult educators. Many of our Health Science lecturers have Masters Degrees. Our "hands on" trainers are the most highly recognised in the Industry, all with their own practices. Our Sports Massage trainers have worked Internationally and Nationally at the Olympics, Australian Tennis Open, World University games and other elite events.  top Are lab visits included in the course? Our course includes visits to the labs at Victorian University, Melbourne. top Can I join Massage Associations with my qualification? Various professional associations recognize our courses.
